What does each hold cost per term?

Your crypto balance pays for a hold in blocks of 30 days, a quarter, half a year or a full year. Each card shows all four totals. A hold has one price, whether it sits in Amsterdam, Bucharest or Chisinau. The checkout also asks for a system and an SSH key; skip the key to get a temporary root password. How these totals compare with cloud storage at 10, 50 and 100 TB is shown in Is a rented storage server cheaper than Backblaze B2 or Wasabi?

What hardware is inside each hold?

Every hold is a single machine, and its name gives its raw terabytes: Hold 100 carries 100 TB of hard drives. The system boots from separate flash storage, so every hard drive is free for your array.

Raw capacity is what the drives hold before you add redundancy. With ten drives in RAIDZ2 or RAID 6, eight carry data: Hold 100 gives 80 TB usable and Hold 160 gives 128 TB. Two drives can fail without data loss. In RAID 10, half the raw space is usable. The trade-offs are laid out in RAID 6 or RAID 10: which is better for a rented storage server?

What do longer terms cost?

Paying for a quarter saves 10%, half a year 20%, a full year 30%. Rent a hold for 30 days, 3 months (91 days, 10% off), 6 months (182 days, 20% off) or 12 months (365 days, 30% off): a longer term costs the 30-day price times 3, 6 or 12, minus the discount, rounded down to the cent (Hold 24: $299.67 for 3 months, $532.75 for 6, $932.31 for 12). A renewal keeps your term and your starting price unless you choose another term for the next renewal in the dashboard.

How is each hold priced against the market?

Our rule: each hold is priced 25% under a named like-for-like storage server from a host that takes crypto without ID, read on 2 November 2026. We do not claim to be the cheapest at every capacity. In full: Each hold is priced 25% under a named reference server, rounded down to the cent (prices read on 2 November 2026): Hold 24 against Mangohost's “HDD0 Dedicated Server” at $147.99 a month; Hold 40 against OffshoreDedi's “Server: 40TB Storage” at $268.13 a month; Hold 100 against OffshoreDedi's “Server: 100TB Storage” at $502.74 a month; Hold 160 against OffshoreDedi's “Server: 160TB Storage” at $748.52 a month. The reference is the comparable storage server with the smallest monthly price among 5 hosts that take crypto without asking for ID at signup: at least the hold's raw hard-drive capacity, a floor of cores and memory (Hold 24: 4 cores and 16 GB; Hold 40: 6 cores and 32 GB; Hold 100: 8 cores and 64 GB; Hold 160: 8 cores and 64 GB), a port of 1 Gbit/s or more, at least 10 TB of traffic, one IPv4 address, monthly billing and stock shown. Processor age is not counted, since most storage servers on sale run processors from 2012 to 2017; setup fees are spread over twelve months; euro prices use 1 EUR = 1.1172 USD (ECB, 2026-10-30). We do not claim to be the cheapest at every capacity: sellers outside that pool list storage servers down to $1.30 per raw TB (NetDynamics24, same day).

The comparison pool is small. Of 23 storage-server sellers Basalthold checked on 2 November 2026, 5 passed every test. For Hold 100 and Hold 160 the honest count is 1 host. OffshoreDedi alone sells a comparable 100 or 160 TB server to crypto buyers without ID. So the median and the reference are the same offer. OffshoreDedi may still ask for verification before delivery. How the whole market prices a terabyte is set out in How much does a rented storage server cost per TB per month?

Which rival offer sets each hold's price?

Taken from the hosts' public order pages on 2 November 2026. Setup fees are divided by twelve and added to the month. 1 EUR = 1.1172 USD (ECB, 2026-10-30).

How does billing work?

Billing runs on a prepaid crypto balance, and a hold's whole term is deducted up front. Each server is paid in advance from your crypto balance, for 30 days, 3 months, 6 months or 12 months as chosen at checkout. Auto-renew charges the same length again at the price you started with, unless you set another length for the next renewal in the dashboard; when the balance falls short, the server stops at the end of its term, its drives are held for 7 days and then wiped.

No setup fee is charged, neither on the first order nor on a renewal. Top-ups start at $25. Credit on your balance does not expire and renews any of your servers. When a top-up is only made to reach the minimum, the unspent part comes back on request within 30 days of payment, in USDT or USDC. The rest of a balance is not paid out unless the law requires it. Incoming payments are checked against public sanctions lists of blockchain addresses; a payment from a listed address is not credited.

If we fail to deliver a server, or it breaks and support cannot repair it, the days it was down go back to your balance. A balance never expires. Top-ups are not paid out unless the law requires it; the part paid only to reach the minimum top-up can be returned on request within 30 days of payment, in USDT or USDC, if it has not been spent. Each case is listed on the refund policy.

What is not in the price?

You pay for hardware, a network port and people who answer. Seven things stay outside the price:

  • Backups of your data: A storage server is not a backup of itself: we keep no copy of your data anywhere else, so a second copy in another place stays your job.
  • Remote console: There is no IPMI or KVM-over-IP access for customers; reboots and reinstalls you request in the dashboard are carried out by the team.
  • Hardware RAID: none is promised. The operating system sits on its own SSD (two mirrored SSDs on the larger holds); the data drives arrive blank and unpartitioned, so you can build ZFS, an mdadm array or a set of independent disks. If you want the team to prepare a RAID 6 or RAID 10 array before delivery, say so to support before the server is handed over.
  • DDoS filtering: No DDoS protection is promised beyond what the datacenter network does by itself.
  • Mail: Outgoing mail on port 25 is blocked on every server for good, against spam; ports 465 and 587 to mail providers are open.
  • Windows: Pick Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux, Proxmox VE, or Proxmox Backup Server for a ready backup target. Windows is not offered.
  • Monero and Lightning: neither is taken. Among the 16 storage sellers with a crypto option, 6 accept Monero and 0 accept Lightning.

How do I pay for a hold in crypto?

Three moves: open an account, which hands you a number; send crypto; rent the hold. Names, papers and cards never come into it.

  1. Top up $25 or more

Choose the amount and the coin (BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC). The crypto amount and its rate are locked for 30 minutes.

  2. Send it to the address shown, on the exact network

The payment page shows our deposit address for the coin and network you picked: BTC on Bitcoin, USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20), ETH on Ethereum, SOL on Solana, LTC on Litecoin. Send only that coin on that network: funds sent on another network or in another coin can’t be recovered. The network fee comes on top of the amount.

  3. Send the exact amount shown, then click “I’ve sent the payment”

Each top-up has its own exact amount (down to the last decimals): that is how we find your payment and link it to your account.

  4. Credited once your payment is checked on the blockchain

Your balance is credited once we have checked the transaction on the blockchain, after the network has confirmed it. Typical network confirmation times:

    CryptoNetworkConfirmationsUsual time
    BTCBitcoin2≈ 20 min
    USDTTron (TRC-20)20≈ 1 min
    USDTEthereum (ERC-20)12≈ 5 min
    USDCEthereum (ERC-20)12≈ 5 min
    ETHEthereum12≈ 5 min
    SOLSolana1≈ 1 min
    LTCLitecoin6≈ 15 min
  5. Rent your hold

Pick a hold, a term, a city, a system and your SSH key (or none, for a temporary root password); the top-up follows the price of that term. Once the payment is confirmed, a person prepares your server within 72 hours and its IP address appears in the dashboard. Credit on your balance does not expire and renews any of your servers. When a top-up is only made to reach the minimum, the unspent part comes back on request within 30 days of payment, in USDT or USDC. The rest of a balance is not paid out unless the law requires it.

Closed the tab? The pending top-up stays under Billing in your account: open it to see the address and the exact amount again.

What else do buyers ask about hold prices?

Is there a free trial?

There is no free trial; Hold 24, the smallest hold, costs $110.99 for 30 days. Should a hold never arrive, or fail beyond repair, its missing days are credited back.

Is a hold dearer in one city than another?

No. Amsterdam (Netherlands), Bucharest (Romania) and Chisinau (Moldova): every hold in every city, at the same price. Choose by distance to your NAS, or by law: Chisinau sits outside the EU, while Amsterdam and Bucharest are inside.

Can I rent a hold for just 30 days?

Yes, 30 days is the shortest term. For Hold 160 that is $561.39; half a year costs $2,694.67 and a full year $4,715.67.

Do I pay more if I go past the traffic allowance?

No. Every server has a 1 Gbit/s port with a monthly traffic allowance (Hold 24 40 TB, Hold 40 60 TB, Hold 100 120 TB, Hold 160 200 TB), one dedicated IPv4 address and an IPv6 /64; going past the allowance never triggers an automatic bill. Each hold's allowance is larger than its raw capacity. Run flat out through a 30-day term, a 1 Gbit/s link carries roughly 324 TB.

Why is a hold cheaper than other storage servers?

Prices come from a dated survey: each hold is priced 25% under a named like-for-like rival, read on 2 November 2026. What you give up is listed openly: no remote console, no copies of your data on our side, no Monero. A person sets each server up, 72 hours at the most after your payment is confirmed.

When is a hold handed over?

A person on the team prepares the machine after your payment is confirmed, within 72 hours, so it is not instant; the dashboard shows its progress until the IP address appears. Other storage sellers state a median of 24 hours, so many are quicker; their range runs from 10 minutes to 10 business days.
