Whole machines built around banks of hard drives, for the backups, archives and object storage you run yourself. You top up in crypto, show no ID, and the data drives reach you blank.

Nothing to upload: no ID, no selfie, no card. An account number is your login, crypto fills the balance, and someone on our team builds the machine by hand.

- Minimum top-up $25. Top up once in crypto, then buy any plan from your balance.
- Credit on your balance does not expire and renews any of your servers. When a top-up is only made to reach the minimum, the unspent part comes back on request within 30 days of payment, in USDT or USDC. The rest of a balance is not paid out unless the law requires it.
- Credited once your payment is checked on the blockchain. Typical network confirmation time: BTC ≈ 20 min · USDT TRC-20 ≈ 1 min · USDT ERC-20 ≈ 5 min · USDC ERC-20 ≈ 5 min · ETH ≈ 5 min · SOL ≈ 1 min · LTC ≈ 15 min

## Which server sets the price of each hold?

Each hold is priced 25% under a named like-for-like storage server from a host that takes crypto without ID. The reference is read on the host's public order page. We do not claim to be the cheapest at every capacity.

## What happens after I rent a hold?

Nothing is automatic between your payment and your server: a person builds it. The steps, with the real times:

1. **Top up in crypto** — Choose your server at checkout, then pay in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC: the top-up is set to the price of your order. Minimum top-up $25.
2. **Payment credited** — Your balance is credited once the payment is checked on the blockchain, after the network has confirmed it. Typical network confirmation time: BTC ≈ 20 min · USDT TRC-20 ≈ 1 min · USDT ERC-20 ≈ 5 min · USDC ERC-20 ≈ 5 min · ETH ≈ 5 min · SOL ≈ 1 min · LTC ≈ 15 min.
3. **A person prepares your server** (within 72 h) — Someone on the team sets up your server in the location and with the system you chose, within 72 hours of the confirmed payment. Locations: Amsterdam, Bucharest, Chisinau.
4. **IP address and root access in your dashboard** — The IP address appears in your dashboard. Root logs in with your SSH key, or with a temporary root password shown there if you gave no key. `ssh root@<server IP>`

## What comes with every hold?

- **Blank data drives** — The operating system sits on its own SSD (two mirrored SSDs on the larger holds); the data drives arrive blank and unpartitioned, so you can build ZFS, an mdadm array or a set of independent disks. If you want the team to prepare a RAID 6 or RAID 10 array before delivery, say so to support before the server is handed over.
- **Keys that stay yours** — You can encrypt every data drive with LUKS or ZFS native encryption; the keys stay with you and nobody on the team ever asks for them.
- **No logs** — No logs are kept: no connection records, no traffic records and no visitor or customer IP addresses, on the website, in the dashboard or on the servers.
- **Down days come back** — If we fail to deliver a server, or it breaks and support cannot repair it, the days it was down go back to your balance. A balance never expires. Top-ups are not paid out unless the law requires it; the part paid only to reach the minimum top-up can be returned on request within 30 days of payment, in USDT or USDC, if it has not been spent.
- **A person on support** — A person answers support emails within 12 hours, seven days a week, including help with SSH keys, RAID, reinstalls and firewall rules.
- **Plain rules of use** — Not allowed: spam or bulk email, phishing, malware or botnet control, DDoS or other attacks, scanning or brute-forcing systems that are not yours, booter or stresser services, carding or fraud, child sexual abuse material, cryptocurrency mining (Chia and other proof-of-space included), seedboxes, IPTV, public distribution of films, series, music, games or software you hold no rights to, and any service to sanctioned people or companies.

## What do people ask before renting a hold?

### What is Basalthold?

Basalthold rents storage dedicated servers in Amsterdam, Bucharest and Chisinau, paid in crypto with no KYC: no ID, no selfie, no documents. Each server is a whole physical machine with 24 TB to 160 TB of hard drives for one customer, delivered with blank data drives and root access, for backups, archives, file sync and self-hosted object storage. On 2 November 2026, prices ran from $110.99 per 30 days for 24 TB to $561.39 for 160 TB ($3.50 per raw TB). It is run by DomaineGoat LLC, a company registered in Panama, keeps no logs and never asks for your encryption keys.

### Is a hold cheaper than Backblaze B2 or Wasabi?

Above a few dozen terabytes, yes. B2 charges $6.95 and Wasabi $7.99 per TB a month. Hold 160 costs $561.39 for 160 TB of raw disk. Below about 30 TB, once drive redundancy is counted, B2 costs less. The full sums, egress included, are in [Is a rented storage server cheaper than Backblaze B2 or Wasabi?](https://basalthold.com/storage-server-vs-backblaze-b2-wasabi/ "Server vs B2 vs Wasabi at 10, 50 and 100 TB")

### What do people store on a hold?

Offsite copies of a NAS, Proxmox Backup Server datastores, restic and Borg repositories, Nextcloud and Immich libraries, and S3 buckets they run themselves. Pick Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux, Proxmox VE, or Proxmox Backup Server for a ready backup target. Windows is not offered. A NAS owner starts at [What is the best offsite backup for a NAS?](https://basalthold.com/offsite-backup-for-nas/ "Offsite targets for Synology, QNAP and TrueNAS")

### Which coins can I pay with?

You top up with BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, starting at $25. Neither Monero nor Lightning is on the list. No KYC: no ID, no selfie, no documents, no card and no phone number, at any point.

### Is my data backed up by Basalthold?

No. A storage server is not a backup of itself: we keep no copy of your data anywhere else, so a second copy in another place stays your job. When a drive fails, open a ticket: the team has it replaced at no cost, and rebuilding the array on the new drive is up to your setup.

### What happens to the drives if I stop paying?

Each server is paid in advance from your crypto balance, for 30 days, 3 months, 6 months or 12 months as chosen at checkout. Auto-renew charges the same length again at the price you started with, unless you set another length for the next renewal in the dashboard; when the balance falls short, the server stops at the end of its term, its drives are held for 7 days and then wiped. The details are in [What happens to my data when I cancel?](https://basalthold.com/data-after-server-cancellation/ "Drive hold period and wipe after a hold ends")

| Encryption | You can encrypt every data drive with LUKS or ZFS native encryption; the keys stay with you and nobody on the team ever asks for them |
| Network | Every server has a 1 Gbit/s port with a monthly traffic allowance (Hold 24 40 TB, Hold 40 60 TB, Hold 100 120 TB, Hold 160 200 TB), one dedicated IPv4 address and an IPv6 /64; going past the allowance never triggers an automatic bill |
| Cities | Amsterdam (Netherlands), Bucharest (Romania) and Chisinau (Moldova): every hold in every city, at the same price |
| Price | Hold 24 $110.99, Hold 40 $201.09, Hold 100 $377.05, Hold 160 $561.39 per 30 days. No setup fee is charged, neither on the first order nor on a renewal |
| Terms | Rent a hold for 30 days, 3 months (91 days, 10% off), 6 months (182 days, 20% off) or 12 months (365 days, 30% off): a longer term costs the 30-day price times 3, 6 or 12, minus the discount, rounded down to the cent (Hold 24: $299.67 for 3 months, $532.75 for 6, $932.31 for 12). A renewal keeps your term and your starting price unless you choose another term for the next renewal in the dashboard |
| KYC | No KYC: no ID, no selfie, no documents, no card and no phone number, at any point |
| Access | You log in as root over SSH: paste a public key at checkout and password logins stay off, or leave it empty and receive a temporary root password with the server, to replace at your first login. There is no IPMI or KVM-over-IP access for customers; reboots and reinstalls you request in the dashboard are carried out by the team |
| Delivery | A person on the team prepares the machine after your payment is confirmed, within 72 hours, so it is not instant; the dashboard shows its progress until the IP address appears |
| Logs | No logs are kept: no connection records, no traffic records and no visitor or customer IP addresses, on the website, in the dashboard or on the servers |
| Payment | Crypto only: BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC; minimum top-up $25 |
